Why Neuromuscular Massage?

Neuromuscular massage, which has been used for several hundred years, is based on an understanding of the neuromuscular system, knowing that the nervous system controls everything in the body, which includes muscle tension.

More specifically, neuromuscular massage focuses on trigger point therapy and PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitative) stretches which target nerve impaction. A trigger point is an area of the body that triggers pain in another part of the body.

When a trigger point spasms in the body, it is an indicator that blood flow to that area is decreased; decreased blood flow means decreased oxygen to that muscle as well, which can prohibit the muscle from working properly, or shut down altogether.

Here at the NMT Clinic we can use neuromuscular massage to help with the following neural pain issues:

  • Joint dysfunction
  • Sciatica
  • Tendonitis
  • Numbness
  • TMJ (Temporomandibular Jaw Syndrome)
  • Migraines
  • Acute pain
  • Myalgia and
  • Sinusitis

Using the correct amount of pressure, with deep muscle massage, neuromuscular massage can restore blood flow to the area and relieve the pain that you may be feeling, you may want to incorporate this with a remedial massage as well for greater well being. Other benefits may include: increased range of motion, increased flexibility, increased energy.
